Motherโs Day is two weeks away. Here are a few ideas, most of which, I think, will ship in time. A few things Iโm excited about below include the seasonโs latest cookbooks as well as this bright blue tortilla press (so cheerful!) from Masienda (love this store) and this vanilla-making kit and this really lovely red wine vinegar.
As always, I hope the ideas below serve as inspiration, and, as always, I love hearing your ideas, too, so please share in the comments.
PS: My perennial favorites can be found inย the shop.
PPS: More Ideas:
Cookbooks
For the Amanda Hesser fangirl mama in your life, the 25th edition of The Cook and The Gardener. If you are unfamiliar, in the book, Amanda tellsย theย story of a year she spent as aย cookย in a seventeenth-century chรขteau in Burgundy. If you love seasonal cooking and excellent writing, you will love this book โ itโs one of the first cookbooks I owned, and it was my introduction to Amanda, whose writing I continue to love. You could pair it withโฆ

โฆ a Five Two Essential Kitchen Towel.

For your vegan mama, my friend Gena Hamshawโs latest book: A Grain, A Green, A Bean. There are so many recipes in this book I want to make, including every one from the โBeans & Greens On Breadโ chapter!!

You could pair it with a bean spoon orโฆ

โฆ a bean spoon and a bag of beans:

Iโve been loving Eden Grinshpanโsย Tahini Baby

You could pair it with a jar of really good tahini orโฆ

โฆ some really good hummus. I love the classic Little Sesame hummus, but they have so many fun flavors.

So many of you ask me about making bread in a bread machine, and until recently I havenโt known where to point you. Now I do! Lukas Volgerโs The Bread Machine Book is filled with recipes that make me wish I owned a bread machine โ they all look fantastic!

You could pair it with really good butter (I can find this one at Whole Foods):

Molly Yehโs latest: Sweet Farm

You could pair it with a Burlap and Barrel vanilla-making kitโฆ

Just add Bourbon! Or vodka! Or rum!

Pizza Night. Of course, I would be so honored if you gifted Pizza Night to the pizza-loving mother in your life. Now Serving in Los Angeles has signed copies of bothย Pizza Nightย andย Bread Toast Crumbs, and they ship everywhere, including internationally. You could pair Pizza Night with โฆ

โฆ my favoriteย dough storage containers or you couldโฆ

โฆ splurge on something like Gozneyโs latest portable oven: Tread.

Itโs so cute! I will be reviewing this on Pizza Every Friday soon.

My first Tread pizza:

A Few More Ideas:
Really nice red wine vinegar. Iโve been using it in this Greek salad dressing recipe, and it has never tasted better. You could pair it with a nice bottle of olive oil.

A New Tortilla Press. How pretty is this blue?! I love the red, too.

Regardless of the color, it works beautifully!

You could pair it with a few bags of beautiful heirloom masa harina:

A new pair of shades: love my Goodrs.

Avocados! The highlight of our month is when our avocados arrive. I think Iโve included this avocado subscription in my last three gift guides because I love them so: they are so, so delicious.

For your tomato-loving mama, really nice canned yellow tomatoes, to tide her over till sungold season. I love making pizza sauce with these tomatoes.

For your romance novel-loving mama, Ali Rosenโs latest: Unlikely Story

A big bag of tea! Which you could pair withโฆ

โฆ a Japanese-style tea tin or two.

A bag of really good cocoa powder: Cacao Barry Extra Brute

or better, a batch of rich & fudgy, shiny-topped brownies made with that really good cocoa powder:

or a batch of double chocolate espresso cookies made with that really good cocoa powder:

In addition to the items above, a gift certificate to a local shop or restaurant, such asย The Vischer Ferry General Storeย orย Arthurโs Market or The Broken Inn would make a great gift. Here are some local and online shops I love:

Itโs older, & the author has sadly passed, but I swear by Beth Henspergerโs The Bread Loverโs Bread Machine Cookbook. ย Looks like you can still find new copies of it. ย I like everything she wrote. ย
I just googled her and it looks as though she has so many lovely bread books. Thanks for sharing!
Highly recommend making vanilla extract with Amaretto liquor. ย
Lovely gift list as always!
Amaretto vanilla โ YUM!
So interesting, Hillary! Love this idea. And thank you ๐
Thank you!! This is such an interesting and fun selection to browse. As usual. Your local shops list makes me miss the Hudson Valley.
I am passing along a link to the ForLife tea infuser because I love it: https://teaembassy.com/collections/new-category-3/products/forlife-stainless-steel-tea-infuser-red
And I can also recommend the Quince European Linen long sleeve pajamas. I bought the blue pinstripe, and they make me think of Katherine Hepburn for some reason (I look nothing like her).
(PS: I think the Masienda link needs attention, because when I clicked it didnโt take me to the site)
Claire! You always getting me loading up my shopping cartโฆ Iโm pretty sure I bought the bean spoon because of you! Love those jammies so much and would love to look/feel like Katherine Hepburn and love that tea infuser as well.
I just checked my Masienda linksโฆ can you point me to which one is misbehaving?
LOL! I think Iโve been doing some stress shopping lately, but I really did need the tea strainer and the pajamas, and I use/wear each all the time, and consider them good purchases. Itโs fun to share recommendations!
A while back we also bought a Caraway nonstick that we are very happy with and use constantly.
Iโm so pleased you have that beautiful bean spoon! We love ours.
BTW, I am on the hunt lately for good recipes that make use of white beans.
Tkhe Masienda link I was referring to is in the Online Shops list, between Vuori and Rancho Gordo.
.
It is so much fun to share! And I love my bean spoon so muchโฆ I want everyone to have one ๐ Thank you re link โ all fixed!
Have you made Marcellaโs White Beans? I love this white bean salad, too, which features summer produce but which can be tailored to whatโs available.
I have made the Marcella beans, and they are delicious. I have half a bag of the Large White Lima beans in my pantry, and I found a couple good soup recipes on the RG website (Monsieur Marcelโs Spring Ayocote Pistou Vegetable Soup, or a cheesy cabbage and white bean soup), and I may give one of those a whirl. I had forgotten about the white bean salad recipe, and meant to try it last summer but then it got away from me. It sounds so simple and good, and I will for sure try it out soon, and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the reminder!
Iโll keep my eyes peeled for more summery white bean recipes as well ๐
Thinking about getting a Tread for Fathers Day. ย Iโm imagining the bliss of having someone else cook dinner outside. What else have you cooked in it besides pizza? ย Roast chicken?
Itโs fun! I have made only one thing in it: that pizza showcased in the post. It arrived this week, and Iโve only fired it up once. I will do a full review of it over on Pizza Every Friday before Fatherโs Day.
Thank you Ali. Much appreciated, as well as all you do!!๐ป๐ป๐ป
I always look forward to your gift guides! Thank you! What kind of whiskey is pictured? I love to make my own vanilla with different kinds of alcohol.ย
Thank you, Susan ๐ Itโs called Heaven Hillโฆ Iโm not sure itโs anything specialโฆ though it might be: I found it in our liquor shelf and went with it ๐
Theย Cacao Barry Extra Brute makes the best chocolate pudding!!ย
ooooooooohhhhhโฆ canโt wait to try that!
Love your guides!! I love love love the Norwex netted dishcloth for cleaning flour / sourdough off the counterโ you highlighted it in your Christmas guide. ย
I think flowers from a local nursery or heck, any flowers, make fantastic gifts any occasion!
Thank you ๐ And agreed! I love picking up flowers at the farmers market for any occasion.
Wow Iโm glad I can shop in the Niskayuna coop for some of these products
Carol, hi! I donโt think the Co-op actually carries many of these itemsโฆ they do have signed copies of both of my books, however ๐
I would love any recipe suggestions of things youโve tried from Tahini Baby and A Grain, a Green, a Bean since I just got both from the library (inspired by this post). Thank you! Love your site!!
I love the fast nโ fresh harissa from Tahini Baby! Have yet to make anything from Genaโs latest book, but I will report back when I do!
